How to use sumproduct in excel

One of the most commonly used Excel functions when calculating on Excel is the SUMPRODUCT function. The Excel SUMPRODUCT function is used to calculate the sum of numeric elements in an array or different arrays, different from the PRODUCT function used to calculate products’ values.

Syntax: =SUMPRODUCT(array1, [array2], [array3], …)

The SUMPRODUCT function syntax has the following arguments:

  • array1: this parameter is the first array or range that will be multiplied then added
  • array2….array_n: these parameters are the second and onwards arrays or ranges that will be multiplied then added. These are optional parameters.

Example: We will calculate the number of book sales for a store in the example table below.

 In particular, the table gave the number of each product type and the price of each type in units of $

Syntax: =SUMPRODUCT(B8:B15,C8:C15)
